The first shipment of Dutch:
A Memoir of Ronald Reagan, arrived in Reagan's hometown of
Dixon, Illinois, on Thursday, September 30, and store owner
Larry Dunphy (right) was quick to get the title on the shelves.
Books on First Bookstore and Cafe is a newcomer to Dixon,
a close-knit community 100 miles west of Chicago, where many
residents still remember and revere young Ron Reagan. Some
have even canceled their orders for the book, which blends
fact and fiction in a controversial "memoir" format.
Opened a year ago by Dunphy and his wife, Carolyn Chin, Books
on First fills the longtime bookstore void in the town of
15,000. Perhaps the only place for miles to serve chai tea,
latte, or literature, Books on First, has relied on the Book
Sense campaign to help establish its identity and connect
with hundreds of other participating bookstores. |
