"...Grand Detour's scenic setting and 19th century charm
have made it a favorite gathering place for artists. ...Some
of [John] Nolf's paintings, as well as some by others of the
Grand Detour art crowd, are on display at the Loveland Community
Building in Dixon.
Art still is being produced in Grand Detour today.

Dan LeTourneau lives in Dixon but belongs
to a group of artists that get together in Grand Detour to
work.
'We're a plain air group,' he said. 'We pick locations around
Grand Detour. We do a lot of river scenes. Sometimes we will
get a model.
There's about 20 people on the list, but usually about 10
show up every week.
Some work in oil, some in watercolor, some in pastel.'
|
LeTourneau said the artists exhibit their
work locally.
Many have paintings on display at Books on First in Dixon."
Note: Many local artists will also be showing at the Grand
Detour Art Fair, an annual event at the John Deere Historic
Site each September for over 50 years.
In 2001, the date to mark is Sunday, 16 September, 9am-4pm
