What a delightful accompaniment to Wanda Brunstetter's wonderful books about the Amish...Wunderbar Gut Desserts From The Heart of Amish Country!   This cookbook is beautifully illustrated with photographs of the Amish life as well as mouthwatering pictures of the desserts.  Mmmm...Shoofly Pie, Apple Pandowdy, Magic Cobbler, Strawberry Divinity...the list of delicious Amish desserts goes on and on.

What a wonderful cookbook to add to your collection.  The recipes are all very straightforward and sound absolutely delicious!
— Kathryn Poulin

The recipes in the book are all written in easy to understand terms. Some of them are very simple and none of them look extremely difficult. I would love to check out Wanda Brunstetter’s other Amish cookbooks after sampling this one.
— Alicia Hart

Is it possible to love a cookbook? Because I love this one! Not only does it contain delicious recipes, but it also contains small thoughts and anecdotes from Amish men and women - and ... photographs ... beautiful, beautiful photographs. These photographs depict not only the delicious recipes, but also give a glimpse into the daily life of Amish families throughout the United States.

— Michelle Barker

My thoughts about the book?  One word pretty well sums it up:  YUMMY!  There is a good variety of recipes -- a few that I was already familiar with and lots of new ones.  As I turned through the pages, I lost count of how many dishes I really want to try out.  And thankfully, most of the ingredients are things that I could find in my own pantry, not something so out of the ordinary that I wouldn't even know where to look for it.

A nice touch is the photography scattered throughout the book.  There are pictures of some of the desserts, as well as bright, colorful snapshots of Amish life.  Several of the pages also include a verse of scripture or a little piece of wisdom in the form of a short quote.  All in all, I think this book would make a nice gift or a nice addition to your own recipe collection.
— Pam Burke

I enjoy looking at this book over and over. The recipes are wonderful, and the enticing pictures are great...and mouth watering! Love the beginning of the book with the short story about the Amish and Mennonite History.
As it says in the book "Wunderbaar Gut (Wonderful Good) Desserts from the Heart of Amish Country!"
There are collections of Cakes, Candy, Cookies & Bars, Ice Cream, Toppings & Frozen Desserts, Pies, Puddings & Cobblers, and Other Desserts.
There are so very many wonderful things you can make from this book which have all been submitted by the Plain Community.
— Maureen Timerman

Just in case there was any question remaining...I love most any book that is about the Amish or contains Amish recipes, prayers, insight, etc. This recipe book did not let me down. I will say that I'm not sure all of the recipes will conjure up an image of the Amish, except for maybe the simplicity of some of them. I love recipe books that have recipes containing only 2 or 3 ingredients! You just can get much easier than that! For example, Ice Cream Jell-o calls for only two ingredients, and I bet you can guess them without even seeing the recipe! So simple, I can't wait to try it!

The recipes are broken down into sections of cakes, candy, cookies, ice cream, pies, and puddings. And don't think that just because it says Amish on the front that all the recipes are antiquated. Oh no, there are recipes for Boyfriend Cookies, Peanut Butter Fingers, Shoofly Cake and some of the recipes call for Mountain Dew, Crescent Rolls and the use of a food processor. Along with the delicious recipes, there are also beautiful pictures of the Amish country, scrumptious looking pictures of the desserts, and uplifting quotes from Wanda and various other authors. "If you are too busy to pray, you are busier than God wants you to be." So, if you're looking for a great cookbook with a variety of simple, but yummy recipes, then this is the one.
— Jodie Moore

Amish Friends Cookbook: Desserts by Wanda E. Brunstetter; is full of recipes and photographs of long proved Amish dessert recipes, that have been shared with family and friends likely for generations. Basic recipes, some very distinctive to the Amish, that will be a hit on your table whether it’s for family dinner, a bake sale, pot luck or holiday gathering.

I wrote a post a couple of weeks ago, taking some of the quotes about simplicity that are peppered throughout the cookbook. And that’s summarizes the cookbook itself, simple recipes that satisfy both physically and on a taste level as well. You won’t find fancy gourmet fondants and ganaches in this cookbook, but you will find recipes that will likely become tradition in your own home.
— Tammy Litke

There are so many mouth-watering recipes with full-color photographs that I want to try everything right away! You’ll be inspired to bake---even in this hot summer weather!

I am so glad that I wasn’t at home or near someone else’s kitchen while I had my face buried in this one! Everything sounded so good that I wouldn’t have known quite where to start. Each page took me on a mental trip back to Lancaster County.
